Let’s Talk About Sex

CO-CREATING GENDER EQUALITY FOR ALL

It is 2015 and women worldwide still face barriers to access basic rights, to work, to study or to become entrepreneurs and politicians. This is holding us back from huge possibilities of human development!

In the past 25 years we have made major progress, but all too often women are still the face of poverty, violence and discrimination.

Many studies now show the huge potential for economic growth and increased happiness, which we are all missing out on because of gender inequality. Our challenge now is to close this gap as fast as we can to start enjoying the benefits of equality for men, women and children.

For that to happen we have to continue raising awareness and get both men and women involved to create societies in which everyone has access to the same opportunities to fulfill their potential.

We invite you to our next Peace Innovation Lab where we will co- create solutions to speed up the process to a more egalitarian society.

To make sure we have a balanced and enjoyable discussion we would like you to invite a friend of the opposite sex to join us! Please send this link to your friend and make sure s/he comes!

Can Innovation Fight Hunger?

795 million people worldwide do not have enough food to lead a healthy and active life. Since 1990, the number of people suffering from hunger has been reduced by 290 million. But hunger still kills more people every year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

Taking the challenge of eradicating hunger, the world´s largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger and two social innovators founded “ShareTheMeal”; an app that draws on the idea that for each hungry child there are 20 smartphone users. With a couple of finger taps and swipes, it lets people donate 40 cents – enough to provide a meal for a child in Africa, to be distributed by the UN World Food Programme.

In this Peace Innovation Lab we will start with a presentation from Sebastian Stricker, Co-founder of ShareTheMeal, to get inspired. Hereafter, we will work in groups to come up with other innovative ideas to tackle hunger, this old but persistent challenge of humanity.

SPEAKER INTRODUCTION:

It takes a special kind of person to be asked by the UN to develop an app to beat world hunger. That person is former management consultant and overseas development worker, Sebastian Stricker. Together with Bernhard Kowatsch, Sebastian developed the app ShareTheMeal.

Future : Framework, Fantasy or Fate?

The currently growing rate of technological change will have explosive repurcussions in social structures, economic stability and psychological well being. Yet, with the exception of a few specialists, this is barely being talked about in public. Our politicians seldom address it, our schools are not preparing their students for it and industrial leaders are focused on their short term interests.

– But this is our future. It’s time to start the discussion.

Typically, talks about the future focus on the extremes of utopian pleasure domes versus dystopian nightmares. However, history guides us to focus on the muddy middle ground, where our human tendencies toward depravity collide with nobel visions of altruism to create the plodding story of humanity that is our legacy. At this peace lab we will look at trends that are real or highly likely, what their repercussions might be and how we can participate in constructing a future that will optimize our own well-being.
